The Ballerina Bride

Donna – the lovely bride who’s engagement session we featured just a few days ago – had a special request for us.  She wanted us to photograph her at ballet practice.  But she was quick to point out that ballet isn’t all about tu-tus and pretty costumes.  A dancer is molded by years of hard work, and a copious amount of blood, sweat and tears.  Donna wanted a raw, grungy ballet session that honored the grittiness that underlies this graceful art.

This was such a fun session for us because we got to photograph something entirely new to us, which is always invigorating.  Thanks Donna for inviting us!  The dedication you have for your passion is so inspiring to us both!  :)

SB - Very cool! I love the last picture, even though she’s not in it, because I think it’s a great visual of what she was trying to communicate through you, of the hard work and grit and time put into it. That’s so neat. Also, she looks like a really tall ballerina–was she? If so, I’m so impressed–I too am a tall girl and I can balance my center of gravity well enough to stand up straight on flat feet, much less do ballet. :)

Gail - These are SO, SO, SOOOOO cool! One of my favorite sessions you’ve ever done! This probably stems in part because I adore ballet…the one form of dance I wish my parents would have said “Yes” to my begging and pleading ;)

Wow….so cool. I’m reading a book by Annie L. right now where she talks about how dancers are great to photograph because they are so comfortable with their bodies..not sure if you felt that way with Donna, but these are mighty impressive!

Brandi - Donna is INCREDIBLE. I love, love, love these. If I was amazing as Donna, I don’t know that I could even begin to pick a favorite. I have taken a ballet class and I know it’s SO HARD, so I have so much respect for her as an artist and athlete. Beautiful images. I love the contrast!!

nicole ladonne - I LOVE these! So beautiful! My favorite is the darker one of her bent over- so much emotion in her form.
