Colleen & Matt had a beautiful, intimate wedding at River Birch Lodge in Hartland, Michigan. We have photographed this venue several times, but it was actually our first time there in the summer, believe it or not! It was just as beautiful as I expected, with all the flowers in bloom. If you follow our blog, you know this is one of our all time favorite venues, so I am sorry to report that it seems River Birch is no longer booking weddings. In fact, it appears that all the weddings for this year were cancelled. The property was never zoned for commercial usage, and I believe there were noise ordinance violations. The home is now currently for sale. It became a very popular venue in a short amount of time, and I know there’s not a lot of information out there about what happened, so there’s the scoop. (Don’t despair though, there are other rustic Michigan wedding venues out there!)
Luckily, Colleen & Matt weren’t effected by this, and they had a wonderful wedding. We really had a great time with this couple, we knew we were a good match when our consultation ran on for hours. :) Their wedding was laid back and fun, I loved how nicely their details complemented the venue.
We love, love, LOVE first looks and this one was no exception. The day was so hot that when I stepped outside from the air conditioning, my lens completely fogged up. This had happened earlier in the day so I was prepared for it and had a lens cloth handy, but I decided to go with it for a few frames, which is why the image below has that dreamy, foggy look.
Colleen’s yellow gerber daisy bouquet from Carriage House Designs was big, full, colorful, and incredible. Which is my favorite kind of bouquet. :)
Immediately after their ceremony, Colleen & Matt did a balloon release, including Matt’s son. This was such a sweet way to include him in the day.
Using jam as a wedding favor was such a great idea and really fit with the theme of this wedding. :)
Colleen & Matt are pie lovers, but they still opted to have a birch decorated wedding cake.
Colleen & Matt, thank you so much for allowing us to be part of your day. Your wedding was lovely and it was a pleasure working with you both. We wish you the best!
